FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions.
Do I need to know how to play my instrument already?
We teach anyone! Whether you’ve only ever looked at or heard an instrument, or have years of experience. Our teachers can help you take the next step!
How do I book a class?
It’s as easy as 123 (as simple as do re mi)! Here is a step by step guide with underlined links to help you out:
- Go to our Private classes page to choose which instrument or topic you’d like to learn.
- Click on the “Book a class!” button that’s under the instrument or topic. This will take you to our Booking page.
- On the Booking page, simply fill out the form. This gives us some basic contact information to get in touch with you, the exact class you’re interested in, and tells us a bit about your skill level.
- Once the form is filled out and you have submitted it by clicking the “Submit form” button at the bottom of the form, we will forward your information to the relevant teacher for your subject.
- Once our teacher receives your information they will contact you to set up your free trial class!
And voila! Time to start your new musical adventure.
How do I get a free trial class?
Whenever you book any class, your first class will be a free trial class!
If you’d like to stop after your free trial class there will be no charges or commitments you have to worry about.
If you’d like to try a different instrument or subject after your free trial class simply book it as you did your first, and you will receive a free trial class with your new instrument or subject as well!
Do I need any equipment for the classes?
You will need the following things:
- The instrument you are taking classes for (for absolute beginners you may need to rent or borrow your instrument if you don’t already own it) or pen and paper in case you are taking music theory classes.
- A device that supports video calling through Zoom, Skype, or Discord.
- A stable internet connection.
When and how do I pay?
Monthly payments are at the beginning of each month before the first class. One-off classes should be paid before the class takes place.
Our teachers use Wise (formerly Transferwise) making it easy for them to receive payments from international bank accounts.
Can I pay in any currency?
Yes (sort of)! Our teachers use Wise (formerly Transferwise) for easy global payments. We can therefore accept any currency supported by Wise. Click here for the list of supported currencies.
If you’d like to pay in a currency not supported by Wise, please get in contact with us to discuss other options.
Can I cancel or reschedule classes?
If notified 24 hours or more in advance, our teachers will reschedule the class free of charge.
If a teacher cancels a class the student always has a right to reschedule, with the additional option for a refund if the class is cancelled less than 24 hour beforehand.
What ages do you teach?
We teach anyone from ages 6 and up!
Can I stop taking classes anytime?
Yes, if you’d like to stop taking classes you can do so at any time.
What's the minimum number of classes I can take?
Just one… Or as many as you like! Most students opt for weekly sessions to make steady, satisfying progress.
How do live online instrument classes work?
The same as any other video call! Simply use the program of you choice (Zoom, Teams, Skype, or Discord), position your camera so that you instrument is clearly visible to the teacher while you play, and that’s it!
What are the pro's and con's of learning an instrument online?
Pro’s:
- Access to high quality, professional teachers that may not be available locally.
- Classes can be taken on the road. Whether you’re on holiday or you’re a frequent traveler, you never have to miss a class.
- Classes can be taken from the comfort of your own home. This is perfect for parents or anybody with responsibilities or challenges with leaving the home.
Con’s:
- Because of the natural delay in sound it is difficult to play at the exact same time as your teacher.
Apart from that… It’s basically the same! All the personal touch and all the detailed practice wherever you are.
Why should I take classes with Veerbeek Music Academy?
Whatever stage you are in in your musical journey, we can help you take the next step! Learn what sets us and our teachers apart.
What's the ideal calling setup for online music classes?
From our experience we recommend using Zoom with the “Original sound for musicians”, and “Echo cancellation” turned on (Settings> Audio> Microphone modes).
Optionally, if you play an instrument that can be plugged in and wish to optimize the sounds further, you could use a USB audio interface. This allows you to bypass the microphones and plug your instrument directly into your computer.
